1. Accreditation procedure:
Physicians can get the medical licence once finish the major.
There are some agreements between Chile and other countries to validate foreign licenses. Universidad de Chile (http://www.uchile.cl) is in charge to do this job.
For local students, since 2003, a National Medical Examination has been applied.
3. Differences in application procedure depending on country of origin:
International applicants need to pass the accreditation procedure.
5. Does everyone who passes the medical license examinations gain a residency position in a hospital?:
No, there are too many specialist doctors and not too many jobs. So it depends on the Hospital, specialitation and your hard work
6. Specialties in which it is most difficult to obtain a position:
It depends, but actually Internal Medicine, Surgery, Ophtalmology, Otolaryngology.
7. Is there a waiting list for medical graduates who want to begin a residency?:
Yes. There are two paths when you apply for a residency program.
The first one is only for Chilean doctors who got their licence that same year (who need to have taken the National Medical Examination).
The second one is for everybody else (International physicians included).
Hospitals have a separate amount of positions for both types of applicants, the "cupos ultima promoción" (only recently graduated from a Chilean university -in some you need the Chilean nationality) and "promociones anteriores" (everybody else).
8. Countries, except this one, in which the medical residency title is recognized:
It depends on the country.
