Section C. Application Procedure
1. Accreditation procedure:

One can check all the legislation for Medical Residency in Brazil. There will be explanations for addmission into the Brazilian Medical Residency Program (the Legislation is written in Portuguese).
To accredit a foreign medical degree here in Brazil, the applicant needs to contact a Medical School from a Federal University (MS-FU) where it is possible to file the request for the accreditation of the degree. They will analyse the degree, the curricula, the classes taken to compare with the Brazilian Medical School System. If necessary, the MS-FU will let the applicant aware of the requirements needed to be fullfilled in order to complete the accreditation process.
After completing the medical degree accreditation, the applicant has to afiliate him/herself to the Regional Medical Board of the State in which he/she will undergo the medical residency. Then, it is possible to enroll in as many institutions as he/she is willing to try to take the exam (the applicant has to pay for enrollment for the exam in each institution, separately). It is really difficult to be accepted in some institutions/specializations.

2. Other requirements:

as far as I know, after obtaining the Brazilian medical license, all the foreign doctor needs is to apply to the exam of the institution/specialization desired and hand-in the documents requested by the institution and follow that up, if he/she passes the written exam, then he/she will be called up for the practical exam (in some institutions), curricula analysis and interview.

3. Differences in application procedure depending on country of origin:

There are no differences in the application procedure between a foreign and a Brazilian doctor to obtain a Brazilian medical license (if both of them graduated in a foreign Medical School).

5. Does everyone who passes the medical license examinations gain a residency position in a hospital?:

To obtain a medical residency or a specialization position in a Brazilian institution, the doctor has to undergo exams as mentioned above.

7. Is there a waiting list for medical graduates who want to begin a residency?:

The applicants are ranked after the exams/curricula analysis/interview and as the best ranked applicant does not enroll after being called up to do so, the next one on the rank list is called up and so on until all the avaliable positions are filled up.

8. Countries, except this one, in which the medical residency title is recognized:

There is an agreement between the MERCOSUL countries to accept the specialist doctor from these countries. (However, this info has to be double checked since I heard there are some alterations to this agreement!!)
