Section A. Residency System
1. Does this country accept international physicians for specialization in its hospitals?:
No
3. Are there examinations during the residency? How are the residents’ evaluated?:

At the end of internship, students have to take State Exam on specialisaion field.
Students on General Medicine, Pediatry, Medical-Biology, Medical-Prevention and Stomatology submit application for the specialization and they are evaluated by paying attention to their marks taken during University years. Pharmaceutical Students for Master Degree are evaluated by The State Students Admission Commission (SSAC).
If the resident get success on State Exam, his/her specialization is recognized.

4. How many hours of work per week are there?:

35 Hours per week without shifts for 7 hours per day.
2 shifts per month in the same department that he (or she) specializes.

5. What is the ratio between this country’s doctors and its population?:

33.6 doctors per 10.000 population.

6. Which languages are necessary for the medical residency?:

Medical Education in Azerbaijan can be taken in Azerbaijani, Turkish, Russian and English. Foreign students have to take 8 months preparation course.

No.

2. What is the annual salary (in euro or u.s.d)?:

50 € (euros) without shifts, 70 € (euros) with shifts.

3. How expensive are the costs of living (average annual expenditure in euro or u.s.d)?:

300 € (euros)/per month

Section C. Application Procedure
1. Accreditation procedure:

Should have a language certificate and pass the accreditation procedure of Ministry of Health.
Free places which hospitals have are announced in newspapers and applicants can apply to these places.

2. Other requirements:

University marks and recommendation letters from professors of the desired hospital.

3. Differences in application procedure depending on country of origin:

No difference.

4. Ratio between applicants and physicians who finally obtain a residency position:

1:2

5. Does everyone who passes the medical license examinations gain a residency position in a hospital?:

No.

6. Specialties in which it is most difficult to obtain a position:

Surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology.
Also in University Hospitals it is more difficult to obtain a potition.

7. Is there a waiting list for medical graduates who want to begin a residency?:

Yes.

8. Countries, except this one, in which the medical residency title is recognized:

Former Soviet Republics.

9. Requirements for international physicians to be able to work in this country after completing their specialization there:

No requirements.
