3. Are there examinations during the residency? How are the residents’ evaluated?:

There are attestations twice a year and one final examination (oral) by the end of Residency.The committee of doctors is evaluating the resident.

4. How many hours of work per week are there?:

Round 40 hours per week, plus night shifts – depending on chosen specialization

6. Which languages are necessary for the medical residency?:

It is possible to study in Armenian, Russian or English. During the Residency, there are courses of Armenian organized by Medical University, so that it is possible to communicate with patients.

1. A. Is there a tuition fee for the residency? If so, how much (in euro or usd)?:

Yes,1 400 000 armenian drams (App. 3500 USD annually)

No salary

3. How expensive are the costs of living (average annual expenditure in euro or u.s.d)?:

Min. 3500-4000 USD

Section C. Application Procedure
1. Accreditation procedure:

Foreign citizens are allowed to do a residency at the Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) if they have an appropriate diploma of higher medical education (MD, MBBS, Dental MD, and/or Pharmacy).

2. Other requirements:

Admission to the program occurs twice annually. In order to begin the residency in October, the appropriate papers (listed below) should be submitted before the August 25th deadline; in order to be considered for admission to the March residency program, the papers must be submitted before the January 25th deadline.

Before beginning the residency, each applicant is required to take a language test at YSMU; the test is not necessary if the applicant can show proof of prior study (i.e. certified course certificates) in the chosen language (Armenian, Russian or English). Those residents not successfully passing the language test will need to attend one year of obligatory language courses at YSMU.

All of the following papers must be received on or before the above mentioned deadlines for consideration of your application:

1. Application form.
2. Curriculum Vitae (CV).
3. Certified copies of all diplomas awarding relevant degrees (originals will have to be presented upon matriculation).
4. Academic Transcript(s) (including subjects, hours and grades for all courses).
5. Certified copy of passport (including all pages that have a mark or stamp on them).
6. Medical records detailing the health state of the applicant (including HIV test).
7. Six (6) passport-sized photos (4x6).

The papers should be validated in the Armenian embassy or, if there is no embassy in the given country, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

All the students must have health insurance during the period of study.

3. Differences in application procedure depending on country of origin:

The difference between local and international applicants is that the locals do not take language test. Fees for international applicants are a little bit higher than for locals

4. Ratio between applicants and physicians who finally obtain a residency position:

1:1

5. Does everyone who passes the medical license examinations gain a residency position in a hospital?:

If the applicant knows the language well enough to begin the Residency Program and passes the interview regarding his specialty, then there are no obstacles in getting residency position in a hospital.

6. Specialties in which it is most difficult to obtain a position:

Those that are most wanted

7. Is there a waiting list for medical graduates who want to begin a residency?:

No

8. Countries, except this one, in which the medical residency title is recognized:

Almost everywhere. Some western European countries might require additional exams though.
